Push notification
An alert sent to a device without SMS — through an installed app or an authorized browser.
A push notification is a message pushed to a device through a channel other than SMS: the installed app, or the web browser granted permission to alert. For the sender, it's free where SMS is billed; for the recipient, it depends on installation and permission — a client will never have their plumber's "app," but their browser may suffice.
For a local business, push is mainly an internal tool: alerting the owner in real time to a new lead, a conversation waiting, a cancellation to refill — without waiting until evening and without paying for SMS. Toward customers, it complements SMS for the segments that accept it, notably via a PWA. The design rule stays the same: a useful notification gets read, a frequent one gets disabled — permanently.
