No-show
A confirmed appointment where the client doesn't show — an empty slot billed at full price.
A no-show is an appointment kept by the business but not by the client: the slot was blocked, the professional was there, nobody came. Rates vary widely by trade — from a few percent in scheduled repair to over 20% in some health or beauty disciplines.
The cost is total: dead time, wasted travel, and a slot that could have been given away. The anti-no-show arsenal is well documented and stacks: an appointment reminder 24 hours ahead, one-click confirmation, possibly a deposit for high-value services, and a waitlist to re-house last-minute cancellations. Measuring your own rate is the first step — you only reduce what you count.
