On-call duty
Organized availability to intervene outside working hours when a real emergency hits.
On-call duty refers to the period when a professional stays reachable and may have to step in outside normal hours: the Sunday on-call plumber, the all-night electrician, the weekend vet. It differs from plain phone coverage by the notion of intervention — you don't just answer, you go on site.
The real problem with on-call duty isn't call volume but triage: waking a tradesperson at 2 AM for a flood is legitimate; waking them for a bathroom quote is not. A well-configured AI voice agent does that triage for you — detected emergency or explicit request, instant transfer to your mobile; otherwise, SMS qualification and handling the next morning. On-call stays human, but it becomes bearable again.
