After hours
Calls received outside business hours: evenings, nights, weekends, and public holidays.
After hours is the window when your business is closed but the phone keeps ringing. Depending on the industry, a significant share of calls — often cited between a quarter and a third of total volume — arrives outside opening hours, because your clients also work 9-to-6 and call in the evening or on Sunday.
These calls share a statistical trait: they're often hotter than the rest. A leak at 10 PM, a car that won't start on a Sunday morning, the urge to book after dinner — these are high-intent requests, exactly the ones a voicemail box turns into lost customers. The available answers range from the status quo (and lost calls) to costly human on-call coverage, with text-back and AI voice agents answering around the clock in between.
