Missed call

An inbound call that no one answered — not you, not a colleague, not an effective voicemail.

A missed call is an inbound call that reaches no human: busy line, no answer, silenced phone, out-of-hours call. The definition must be strict — a call diverted to a voicemail the caller hangs up on without leaving a message is still, commercially speaking, a missed call.

The number that matters: most callers leave no message at all. Industry studies and receptionists' experience converge on a figure around 80%. The caller's logic is simple: they have a problem now, they're calling from Google Maps, and if nobody answers they dial the next name on the list. Every missed call is therefore a silent race against your response time.

The recovery levers are well known and stack well: call waiting and multi-line setups to absorb peaks, conditional forwarding to a coverage service, and above all text-back — an SMS sent in under ten seconds, while the caller still has the phone in hand. The AI voice agent plays the opposite card: rather than recovering the missed call, it prevents it by answering at any hour. The starting point remains measurement: without tracking your missed call rate, you're fixing things blind.
