Emergency

A call that can't wait — a water leak, a heating breakdown — and the system's ability to recognize it and escalate it immediately.

In service trades, an emergency is a request whose waiting cost grows with every hour: the leak still running, the shop without heat, the jammed lock. It has two economic properties: it often commands a premium (after-hours dispatch, priority intervention) and it builds loyalty — the plumber who answers at 2 AM keeps the client for the next ten years. A missed emergency call is therefore a double loss: tonight's job, and the relationship that came with it.

The challenge, for automated phone handling, is triage: treating everything as urgent exhausts the professional; treating nothing as urgent loses the clients who pay the premium. A well-tuned system tells three levels apart — ordinary requests (qualified and scheduled), urgent ones (flagged, prioritized, confirmed by text), and true emergencies (transferred immediately, with a callback to the number if the call drops). The test of an after-hours system isn't its ability to answer, but to not smother the emergency under routine — or the reverse.
