Failover
Automatic switchover to a backup system when the primary fails — the outage becomes invisible.
Failover is a system's ability to switch automatically to a backup resource when the primary fails: if the voice server goes down, calls are rerouted to another; if one SMS gateway is saturated, the message leaves through an alternate route. It's the concrete implementation of redundancy — two paths for every critical function.
For a professional phone service, the question to ask the vendor is blunt: "what happens when your cloud goes down at 3 AM?" The honest answer always looks like a cascade: failover to a secondary node, then final forwarding to your own mobile, so a call is never lost for lack of an alternative. A system without failover isn't reliable — it's just available as long as everything goes fine.
