Time slot

The block of time reserved for an appointment or job in the calendar.

A time slot is a unit of planned time: "Tuesday 2–4 PM." In service trades, it's defined by a duration and a location, and must account for real constraints: travel time between addresses, overruns on the previous job, breaks. An honest calendar builds in buffers; an optimistic one stacks slots back-to-back and cascades off schedule at the first surprise.

The slot is also the currency of modern tools: an AI agent offering appointments doesn't guess your availability, it reads slots from a shared calendar, offers them to the caller, then locks them upon confirmation. The quality of the automation therefore depends entirely on how well the slots are defined: correct duration, covered area, travel buffer.
