Opt-in
Prior consent to receive your communications — the legal gateway to marketing.
Opt-in is the agreement given by a person to receive your communications: sales calls, texts, emails. It's obtained through explicit mechanisms — a checked box, a sent keyword, a filled form — and its strongest form is double opt-in, where the person confirms their agreement with a second action. The underlying rule: silence is not consent, and neither is a pre-checked box.
For a local business, opt-in happens at first contact: during the call ("may I send you the slots by text?"), in the first message, or at the quote stage. Storing it properly — timestamped, with its exact wording — is what separates a business that can prove compliance from one hoping no customer complains. A well-managed opt-in isn't a constraint: it's a list of people who actually want to hear from you.
